What is The Truth Never Spoken about?

She was the one that got away.
He was the one that stayed behind.
I was in love with Jake Clarke. He was my best friend and my soulmate. We planned our future together and it made sense until one day I just walked away from it all. I never told him why. I had my reasons for keeping the truth from him, even when it meant breaking my own heart for ten years.
I have been able to avoid Jake and knowing anything about him for the past decade. Until now. Our paths intertwined again and the love that never faded, rekindled. But the truth that was never shared, it remains a secret.

Interview
What was your inspiration for The Truth Never Spoken?
I’ve always loved telling stories and sharing with others. Last year, I kept saying jokingly that I should just write the book with my love story because my husband is so swoony and I also have never seen a love story like mine. My friends kept telling me that they would read it and here we are.
What drew you to writing?
Telling stories is one of my favorite things in the world but I needed something that was timeless. Something that my littles could go back to and see. A book allowed me that.
How did you choose which character to centre the story around?
I wanted to see myself in a book, so I wanted the female main character to be a curvy sassy, latina like me. The main male character is heavily inspired by the best man I know, my husband.
What was your process for writing The Truth Never Spoken?
Well, my process was very unconventional. I started drafting a chapter at a time on my notes app. Just jokingly writing it. I made an outline, a playlist and ideas on my notes too. I shared those notes with three friends who would read chapters as I wrote them. It took me 10 months to write 32 chapters because I wasn’t taking it seriously. In December, my husband said “you should just write in a computer.” and after that, the words just flew when I saw that I already have 34,000 words. I proceeded to write in Reedsy after that. I found 4 betas and my amazing editor, Sophie, who took the book to the next level.
What is your approach to world and character building?
My characters are heavily inspired in real people and Baker Oaks is inspired in a small town in North East Florida. A lot of the feelings in my book were inspired by songs too.
How would you describe The Truth Never Spoken in five words?
The Truth Never Spoken is an emotional rollercoaster of a sweet story. I like to say that it has angst and sweet moments to keep the reader entertained but also falling in love with the characters.
Did you have a favourite moment in the book to write?
YES! The letters towards the end were my favorite to write.
What was your favourite book growing up?
A Bridge to Terabithia as a kid and The Hunger Games after 16.
Do you have a favourite genre to read?
I love romance and thrillers.
