Interview

What was your inspiration for the Whiskey Men series, in particular Always Yours?

I love the friends to lovers trope! Honestly, it’s probably one of the easiest tropes for me to write. My little fictitious small town of Whiskey Run has given me all kinds of inspiration and that wasn’t any different with Always Yours! I’ve written a lot of books and I’m always looking for ways to give my readers the tropes they love, but try to keep it fresh. I was actually a little worried about this book. I didn’t know how people would react with the female main character being pregnant by someone other than the male main character, but readers have loved it. Thank goodness. LOL

Did your process change writing a series of different lengths?

Yes, the process has changed a little but I think I was ready for it. Through the years, I’ve started writing longer and longer books. When I published my first book I think it was around 3500 words so to finally be writing 45k word books has been a big accomplishment for me. One of the biggest things for me as I’ve started writing longer, is that I have to be more detailed with my plot and subplots.

How did you choose which character to focus the story?

I wish I could say I have the whole series planned and plotted out in the beginning, but I don’t. I do have my characters and what tropes I want to write in each book but that’s it. As I go through the series, I try to hint at the next couple and a little about what they’re going through. Probably the hardest book for me in this series was Forever Mine. I love a second chance romance but this one was a MARRIED second chance romance. It was harder writing that one than any of the books in the series but I think a lot of my readers were able to relate to it. 🙂

What is your approach to world and character building?

I have been very fortunate to stay in the Whiskey Run world for as long as I’ve been in it. My first Whiskey Run book was published in March of 2021 and I’m still writing in it. It definitely makes it easy for world building. 🙂

What do you love about writing small town romances?

Until the age of 18, I lived in a small town. We had one caution light in the whole town. There wasn’t much to do so I spent a lot of time porch sitting and reading books. But I love the sense of community of a small town.

Did you have a favourite moment to write?

Probably my favorite things from the Whiskey Run series is how Violet, the owner of Red’s Diner, always played matchmaker. And I love the cinnamon apple Blaze Cake that shows up in most of the books. I recently had stickers made that says, “I’m just here for the cake.” HAHA!

What was your favourite book growing up?

Anything from Diana Palmer. She is an author that I could read any of her books over and over.

Do you have a favourite genre to read?

Definitely Contemporary romance! It’s my FAVORITE!
