Interview
What was your inspiration for the Wildsong series?
This is a spin-off series that came from a couple that I introduced in Wild Irish Christmas. I love exploring the Fae world, and wanted to play with the elemental aspects of the Fae. Ireland is the perfect backdrop for this, particularly because they experience all seasons in a day at times!
· What drew you to writing fantasy romance
I’m a daydreamer by nature, and love to believe in the what-if’s in life. What if mermaids were real? What if there is more to this world than we understand? I love playing in that space between reality and fiction. Plus, a strong theme in all of my books is women stepping into their power. Fantasy lends itself to showing that growth on so many levels.
· How did you choose which character to centre the story around?
I can’t give too much away, but I knew the abandoned child needed to be the most powerful to close out the series.
· What was your process for writing Lyric of Wind?
This book I actually wrote straight through in three weeks. Sometimes it just works like that. I had to go all in, turn off my notifications, and block the world out. The story just came out in one long creative bout, and I ran with it. Really, the story just dragged me along and I tried to keep up.
· What is your approach to world and character building?
My readers really love returning to the worlds that I create. For me, I picture each world like I’m entering a new house in my mind. I can see the rooms, the town, the countryside. When I write a pub scene, in my mind I’m walking into the pub and can hear the sounds, smell the food, taste the pints. I try to bring that vision through in my writing.
· How would you describe Wild Scottish Rose?
Ahhh, I’m writing this book right now and it is a delight. This is a friends to enemies to lovers. There is a really good push/pull between the protagonist and her love interest, and it ramps up as he uncovers more of what she is desperately trying to hide. The tension is just so yummy. That being said, I always infuse a level of joy and lightness in my stories, and that serves as an important release to some of the heavier moments that come with the world.
· Did you have a favourite moment in the book to write?
One of my favorite scenes is the opening scene of Wild Scottish Knight where the dogs are at the funeral. Another scene in that book is when Sophie goes up against Lachlan in the Highland Games and holds her own.
· What was your favourite book growing up?
A Wrinkle in Time! “Choose love.” That resonated so much with me.
· Do you have a favourite genre to read?
- Romance, rom-com, and fantasy romance are my top favorites.
