My thoughts on Iron Flame
I really enjoyed Iron Flame, I finished it with 8 hours. After the cliffhanger of Fourth Wing I was excited to dive back in but now left wanting the next book with how it finished.
The story seamlessly continues from the events of Fourth Wing, wasting no time in immersing readers in its gripping narrative. The introduction of new characters adds depth without overshadowing each one’s distinct personality; Felix, with his sarcastic charm, stands out. Solane’s character development, while commendable, could have had a smoother transition given her newfound strength.
Varrish emerges as a character evoking intense dislike, comparable to the infamous Umbridge. However, the dynamics between another character and Violet are described as “chef’s kiss.” The romantic relationship between Xaden and Violet takes center stage, and the extensive groveling and reassurance throughout the book receive high praise. Xaden’s patience, accountability for mistakes, and transparent communication contribute to his portrayal as an ideal partner.
Violet’s character, despite potential perceptions of annoyance and insecurity, is appreciated for its authenticity and relatability. The challenges she faces and her journey with Xaden foster trust and confidence between them. Tairn and Andarna, beloved characters from the previous book, continue to shine with Tairn’s sarcasm and Andarna’s endearing snarkiness. The supporting cast, including Ridoc, Sawyer, Imogen, and Rhi, adds humor and support to the main characters.
The complex relationships between Dain and Cat raise mixed emotions, creating an intriguing dynamic. The book is praised for its perfect blend of romance, spice, action, plot twists, and drama.
