Series You Should Definitely Read

12 fantasy and romance series to read

Hello fellow readers! I have read a lot of great books that have been a part of a series so this week I thought I would share some of my favourites. There will be a mixture of Young Adult and Adult fantasy series as well as romance series that I love to reread. These series include some trilogies with some duologies slipping in as well.

If you have explored my book reviews, you can definitely see the theme of fantasy and romance genres, so it seems almost fitting to share the series I have been enjoying. I love diving into the fantasy genre as it takes me away from the world I know into some fantastic worlds created by authors.

I always try to review books that I read but I definitely haven’t gotten to them all. I’m going to start doing some series reviews which may help the backlog I’m facing.

Fantasy Series

Obernewtyn Chronicles by Isobelle Carmody

The Obernewtyn Chronicles is a seven book Young Adult series and has a post apocalyptic setting and depicts a world long after its destruction by a global nuclear holocaust

The series’ protagonist, Elspeth Gordie, is a young girl with mental powers condemned by the series’ main antagonists, the governing body, known as the council, and the religious authority, the Herder Faction.

When I was in high school, this was my absolute favourite series and I could not wait to get my hands on each book. This is a series I definitely love to read over and over again as well as I know where each of my favourite parts are in the book.

If you love strong female characters, different powers of the mind and fantastic sarcasm, definitely grab these books.

Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni

The Medoran Chronicles is a five book series with a novella book as well as an epilogue book totalling the series with seven books.

This series is a Young Adult series which is described as a Harry Potter meets X-Men and Narnia.

The main protagonist is Alex who is joined by her new friends Jordan and Bear through different adventures to save Medora.

I discovered the Medoran Chronicles a couple of years ago when I was looking for a new series. I was intrigued with the Harry Potter meets X-Men and Narnia hook and it did not disappoint. Lynette Noni has created a world I would love to be apart of and explore myself. It is a series I read yearly.

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

The Stalking Jack the Ripper series, while not completely fantasy, I could not help but put on this list.

It is more of a young adult mystery series set in the 19th century about a young 17 year old girl called Audrey Rose Wadsworth, as she navigates the world of Forensic Pathologist and uncovers serial killers around the world.

This was the first series by Kerri Maniscalco I read and I adore her writing style. I really enjoy the breaking of societal norms Audrey Rose did and I also enjoy murder mysteries.

Starbound Trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Starbound is a young adult sci-fi romance trilogy written by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. The series includes three main books and one short story.

Three worlds. Three love stories. One enemy.

When I started reading this series, I could not put the books down. These books are duel POV and follow different couples fighting the same enemy. If you are wanting to explore sci-fi books, definitely try this series.

The Prison Healer by Lynette Noni

The Prison Healer Series is a dark fantasy trilogy by Lynette Noni, about a seventeen year old called Kiva Meridan, who is the healer in a death prison called Zalindov. Her adventures lead her through all the kingdoms of Wenderall, the setting of the book.

Lynette Noni didn’t disappoint with this trilogy and I enjoyed exploring the kingdoms of Wenderall through Kiva’s eyes. I read these books within a week and will be reading them again sometime this year.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

The Caraval series by Stephanie Garber is a young adult fantasy that follows two sisters Scarlett and Donatella.

Book 1: Caraval

Book 2: Legendary

Book 3: Finale

I read this series a couple of years after the hype for the book ended and I loved it. This is series that I read pretty quickly and I really loved the sisters relationship. It’s a perfect combination for love and adventurous story, and the world-building.

Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout

This is a new adult series which is classified as a fantasy romance. Blood and Ash series started being published before the Flesh and Fire series by Armentrout however the Flesh and Fire series is set before Blood and Ash in the same world.

In the Blood and Ash series we follow Poppy and in the Flesh and Fire series we follow Seraphena.

Book 1: From Blood and Ash

My sister introduced me to the Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout and I love reading this series over again. I love how two series align as well as two strong female main characters that aren’t afraid to stab people.

Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco

Two sisters. One brutal murder. A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself.

This trilogy is a young adult fantasy romance that weaves witches and the Princes of Hell together.

Book 1: Kingdom of the Wicked

Book 2: Kingdom of the Cursed

Book 3: Kingdom of the Feared

I couldn’t put this series down and I do really like Kerri Maniscalco’s writing style. I love witches and ever since watching the tv show Supernatural, I love anything to do with other realms.

Letters of Enchantment by Rebecca Ross

The Letters of Enchantment duology is a young adult fantasy romance that follows Iris and Roman.

When two young rival journalists find love through a magical connection, they must face the depths of hell, in a war among gods, to seal their fate forever.

Book 1: Divine Rivals

Book 2: Ruthless Vows

Wow, this was one of my favourite reads last year and I even had pop figures made! (I have to do a post about my pops) Even if you don’t like young adult books, this fantasy romance is one that definitely needs to be picked up.

Romance Series

Mead Mishaps by Kimberly Lemming

This is an adult fantasy romantic comedy.

Book 1: That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon

Book 2: That Time I Got Drunk and Yeeted a Love Potion at a Werewolf

Book 3: That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human

I didn’t know what to expect when reading this series but I loved it and can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Cocktails and Curves by Megan Wade

This is an adult contemporary romance that features curvy female main characters that are looking for love.

I loved the representation of females who are curvy or plus-sized as most female main characters are small in stature in character art unless the authors are very specific in their descriptions.

Jacksonville Rays by Emily Rath

This is an adult sports romance series which features characters from the same hockey team the Jacksonville Rays.

I deep dived into the world of sports romance and I have done another blog post here about my favourites. However I do love my hockey romance and the Jacksonville Rays series was the first ones I picked up.

Dirty Air by Lauren Asher

These are adult sports romance books with the main sport being F1 which I haven’t found many ones I have enjoyed.

One of the harder sports romance types to find but I really enjoyed this F1 romance series by Lauren Asher. If you enjoy F1 you may enjoy this series.

What are some of your favourite series?

As always, these are my thoughts and I may have enjoyed the series and you haven’t which is completely fine. Let me know in the comments any series you think I definitely check out.
