Ebooks versus physical books?

The pros and cons for the world gone digital

Hello again fellow readers! Today we are going to explore the pros and cons for ebooks and physical books.

It is one of the conversations that has a lot of opinions and I like both! Before jumping into the pros and cons of each method reading, I’ll briefly explain both types.

What are ebooks?

An eBook is an electronic book designed to be read on devices such as computers, phones and tablets. They are non-editable and adaptable to the suit screen they are being read on.

What are physical books?

Physical books are printed and bound in hardbacks, paperbacks and soft covers.

The Pros

Ebooks

  • Affordable: most of the available books are cheaper that physical books that are available in all book stores.
  • Easy for travel: can take all the books with you when travelling.
  • People can’t tell what your reading
  • Convenient to buy books and no need to wait to go to a bookstore

Physical

  • They don’t run out of power
  • They are great to put on display and collect on bookcases
  • Turning pages
  • Comforting

The Cons

Ebooks

  • no trophies of completion to put on the shelf
  • Devices can be expensive, especially the Kobo or Kindle
  • Missing holding a book and flipping pages
  • Eye strain
  • Runs out of battery

Physical Books

  • Easy to break and deform (pages and spine)
  • Heavy
  • Expensive: especially here in Australia or if you’re wanting hard cover books
  • You can’t read at night without a light
